Welcome to Mrs. Hudson's Class!

Welcome to Kindergarten! Happy February! We continue to make our brains very smart!!!
We have been very busy learning about the ABC's. We have learned all letters except Jj, Qq,Uu, Vv, Yy and Zz. We know the sound and physical motion for all letters learned. Ask your child for a demonstration! We are regularly blending sounds to form words and we are working hard on learning to read. We have also learned the following sight vocabulary:
I, a, my, no, yes, red, mom, dad, go, the, to, like, he, be, come, here this, said, has, at, by, has, me, for, where, do, you, look, an, one, see, what, two, so, stop, it, in
We have learned many math concepts (numbers 0 - 31, ordinal numbers 1st through 10th, counting to 100, skip counting). We are currently working on learning addition concepts and will soon begin our study of subtraction.
February has been a very busy month so far. We have learned about Groundhog Day, celebrated the 100th and 101st days of school, Black History, Valentine's Day, Lincoln's Birthday and still have Washington's Birthday and dental health to cover! Who knew so much could fit into 28 short days?!!!

Conversation time (our version of Show and Tell) is Tuesday through Friday of each week. Please refer to the schedule that was sent home for the week's topic.
Please use the green folder to transport papers and other important information to and from school and home every day. We are working on the development of responsibility and routines through their use.

Homework nights are Monday and Wednesday, unless there is a holiday or snow day. At the beginning of the year homework will typically be on Wednesday only as we get acquainted with this new and important job. We will also have a periodic reading folder which comes home one or two times per week. The intention is to have your child read as many times as possible in the two days it is kept at home. The children know that the more they pracitce, the better they will read! Please encourage your child's development of responsibility in completing and returning homework on time.
Please share a good book (or two or three!) with your child each day.
