Poetry

Poetry helps increase listening skills in a fun and relaxed manner.  Poems are fun to memorize and can last a lifetime.   Through poetry, memory skills and vocabulary can be improved.  Poetry serves as a vehicle for children to remember stories and learn about the world around them.  Because children learn poems so easily, they are a great way to teach phonemic awareness, directly and indirectly, and they help children learn math, science and social studies concepts.

The following are some of the poems we will be working on this month.

November

No sunshine, lots of rain,

No warm days, snow again!

No bugs or bees

No leaves on trees.

You must remember

This is NOvember!

Colored Leaves

This is a red leaf falling down,

This is a yellow leaf swirling around,

This is an orange leaf pretty and bright,

This is a brown leaf asleep on the ground.

Down! Down!

Down, Down!

Yellow and brown

The leaves are falling

All over the town.

Five Fall Leaves

Five fall leaves were hanging from a tree.

The first one said, "Soon we'll be free!"

The second one said, "I'm falling down."

The third one said, "I'll blow across town."

The fourth one said, "Let's not wait!"

The fifth one said, "Isn't fall great?"

The First Thanksgiving

The Pilgrims and Indians on Thanksgiving Day,

Happily came together to eat dance and play.

The Indians went hunting and brought lots of meat.

The Pilgrims grew vegetables and many treats.

I Am So Very Thankful

I am so very thankful

For many different things.

I have my friends and family

And all the love they bring.

I am so very thankful for many different things.

Indians In A Teepee

Five little Indians in a teepee,

Sleeping quietly as can be.

Along comes the chief an what do you think?

Up jump the Indians quick as a wink.

The First Thanksgiving

When the pilgrims came to this new land,

They met the Indians and shook their hands.

Thay had a feast of turkey and corn,

And that was when Thanksgiving was born.

I Saw A Turkey

I saw a turkey on Thanksgiving

His tail was spread so wide

"Shh," said he, "don't tell you've sem,

For I'm running away to hide!"

Manners

We say, "Thank you."

We say, "Please."

We don't interrupt or tease.

We don't argue.  We don't fuss.

We listen when folks talk to us.

We share our toys and take our turns.

Good manners aren't too hard to learn.

It's really easy when you find

Good manners mean

JUST BEING KIND!

My Promise

Each day I'll do my best,

And I won't do any less.

My work will always please me,

And I won't accept a mess.

I'll color very carefully,

My writing will be neat.

And I simply won't be happy

'Till my papers are complete.

I'll always do my homework.

And I'll try on every test.

And I won't forget my promise -

To do my very best!
