Mrs. Schell's Class
Grade 2 Yellow Pod Welcome to Second Grade! I am truly excited to begin a fun year with my new crew of second graders. It will be a year to grow and gain independence in so many areas. Below is some important information for you to know... Reading/Language News Our new theme is: Better Together. Please continue reading as much as you can at home. Ask your child to retell what they've read. If you want to keep track, creating a reading log with book titles and story responses is a great idea. Many students have signed up to read a book to the class!! This has turned out to be a wonderful activity for all! When choosing a book with your child at home, please be sure that he/she can fluently read the book and that it takes no more than 10 minutes to read the story aloud. Spelling News Lesson 23 Math News Numbers to 1,000 is our new focus. We will learn how to read, write and order numbers to 1,000. Practice counting in any way at home and continue to study those math facts at home as much as possible!! Social Studies News Students will learn about and use maps and globes in our next unit. Science Our next Science unit will be about soil. We will be going to Barnes Nature Center for a hands-on learning experience with this unit! Specials Monday-Library Tuesday-Music Wednesday-Gym Thursday-Computer Lab Friday-Art Lunch-11:45-12:10 Recess-12:10-12:35
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. It is expected that homework is handed in the day after it is assigned. Unless a note is sent in, missing homework will be made up during snack or recess time the day it is due. Students will have a homework assignment sheet that will come home daily in their yellow two pocket folder provided by our PTO. They will learn how to record and keep track of their own assignments this year.
Quick Notes... When your child is absent from school, please remember to send in a note to me the day your child returns to school, even though you may have called the office. This is school policy. Questions? You can contact me at school by phone or e-mail me at: schellan@watertownctschools.org. If your message is urgent, it is best to leave a message for me through the office. Although I check e-mail twice daily, there have been times that I can't check it, or don't receive the message sent. Please remember that you need to write a note or call the office if your message is pertaining to a change in ride home or to any other important office related matters. Thanks!
